Gooping isn't too crucial, hence the 'McGuffin' 😉, except as yet another example of Albus just not cracking down on Draco as part of his overall schemes and the catalyst for the Tonks/Lupin elopement. The tracers, on the other hand, will eventually matter more.
I like to think the 'previouslies' make remembering the details less crucial, and with the ability to make them clicky here, well, easy enough to pop back and 'search on page' if folks need further reminding. It makes for a different reading experience when things come into fruition later and you go back and spot all the seeds on re-read. More mileage for the same story.
