Ten or eleven pages of the new chapter are already written, so that's good news. (So if you're too worried, I can send you the scene immediately following this one. There's a lot to be said for reducing stress.)

If you do nothing else on LJ, you need to go look at the lego Snape MW sent me. (Because om freaking g!) (Stuck it on gingerbred's journal. Think it was my most recent post, but it wasn't far down the list, either way.)

They definitely deserve backlash, but it's like their whole society has long since stopped asking: do they deserve *this*? When do you resort to the Dementor's kiss. What if you're *wrong*? And why weren't you *right*? Given all the tools at their disposal, how can you still get things wrong? Is that down to politics? Trying to score point with the populace and damn the occasional innocent party? Given Sirius was innocent, do we even really know Barty Crouch Jr. was guilty, or is this just a question of knowing the wrong people (ffs, he was sorted into Slytherin. How was he supposed to *not* know them or, as a Slytherin, who else would have been his friends?) and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. His guilt wasn't canonically proven, and he proclaimed his innocence at his mockery of a trial. It's just as likely his father sacrificed him for the sake of his career. Looked good, didn't it? Made him look like he took the whole 'punish the Death Eaters, no tolerance' thing seriously.

I've noticed a lot of people online just blame Severus for becoming a Death Eater and can't get past that, so I figured it might help to explore what it means to live in that House in that climate, with no other allies at school and unsure even whom amongst your housemates you can trust, especially if you haven't got connections (like Tracey) or money (like Harper). Or what it means when the person teaching you doesn't try to keep you well clear of things, but perhaps is more interested in seeing relationships made so they gain in influence (Sluggy. boo.).
